R. Kelly 2nd bail request from jail denied by Judge

R. Kelly has had his second attempt to secure bail from jail due to the COVID-19 pandemic, shot down by a Judge.

According to the federal judge who adjudicated over the matter, the judge accepts that the disease has indeed shown its presence within the Correctional facility where R. Kelly is currently awaiting trials. Nevertheless, the judge has declined the plea of R. Kelly to be released from jail on bail owing to the fact that the singer did not present enough evidence in his bond that shows that he is currently at risk of contracting the coronavirus.

R. Kelly has argued that he would not in any way pose as a flight risk, stating that he has in past times shown up on the scheduled court days. To this argument, the judge countered and overruled it, stating that R. Kelly is also facing serious charges, like allegedly tampering with the witnesses, hence the need to deny his release.

R. Kelly’s lawyer had told the judge that the his client (R. Kelly) is in a vulnerable position to contract the virus, seeing as an inmate on the singer’s floor has been hospitalized due to COVID-19. The lawyer also added that R. Kelly does not pose a flight risk, owing to the fact that the singer presently has no means of securing one, as he owes IRS a whopping $2 million, hence any money the singer makes from royalties goes straight to paying bills.

However, the decision of the judge did not hinge on his financial insolvency, however, the judge addressed R. Kelly’s promise to maintain a low profile by wearing a GPS monitor, and staying off social media. The Judge stated that law enforcement agents are currently stretched due to the COVID-19 pandemic, therefore “They cannot ensure that a defendant with a history, incentive and opportunity to interfere with potential witnesses will not do so.”

R. Kelly had at the first attempt, had his plea for bail out of jail declined, as the Judge stated, at that time, that the singer was not in any fears of contracting the virus since there had not been any confirmed case in the Correctional facility where R. Kelly is awaiting trial, in Chicago.
