The former professional American footballer who went on to act in the movie “Nashville” and the television version of M*A*S*H, has died on Saturday, April 4 at the age of 82.
Brown, who spent much of his NFL career on the Philadelphia Eagles, reportedly suffered from dementia.
In a statement on Eagles’ Twitter page from the Eagles CEO and Chairman, Jeffry Lurie, he said: “Timmy Brown was an all-time great Eagle and one of the most dynamic multipurpose players of his era. He overcame many obstacles in his life to enjoy success both as an athlete and as an entertainer.”
“A three-time Pro Bowler and member of our 1960 NFL Championship team, Timmy excelled as a running back and return specialist with his incredible athleticism and signature versatility,” Lurie continued.
“He was one of the most exciting players to watch during his career,” he added. “Those who knew him well have said they will remember him for his outgoing, uplifting personality and the connections he built with his teammates and the community. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this time,” added the Chairman.

His NFL career started with the Green Bay Packers, but after he was cut from the team by then-coach Vince Lombardi after just a game, Brown landed with Eagles. He lasted with the Eagles until he was traded to the Baltimore Ravens in 1968, which was his last season as an NFL player.
2015 saw Brown inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame.
In order to continue exploring, Brown turned to act upon his retirement from the NFL. He played Capt. Oliver Harmon ‘Spearchucker’ Jones in the M*A*S*H movie and TV show for the 1970s series. Subsequently, Brown appeared in several other TV shows including The Rookies, T.J. Hooker, S.W.A.T, etc.
On May 24, the family is planning a memorial service that would have marked his 83rd birthday. Brown is survived by his son Sean Brown, sister Della Mitchell, and two grandchildren, according to Deadline.
