Storms which have been building in Michigan and west of the nation are pushing in, leading to Severe Thunderstorm Warnings that had been issued throughout most of Metro Detroit Wednesday evening.
At this point, there are no lively thunderstorm warnings; however, the window for the active climate is anticipated to last till about nine or 9:30 p.m. Flood advisories are in effect for Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, St. Clair and Livingston counties.
Strong to severe thunderstorms are anticipated to arrive in Southeast Michigan by 5 p.m. and will last till almost 9 p.m. Rain will linger over the night and early Thursday morning; however, the critical window that I’m concerned with is between 5 and 8
The most significant weather threats will be medium to massive hail, winds gusting to almost 60 mph, frequent lightning, and hefty Rain that can cause flooding. An isolated tornado can’t be ruled out on this window as well.
You must be aware of the forecast if you’ve got any outdoor occasions this evening. Youth baseball, golfing league or even just hanging outside in the pool and all events need to be postponed if those storms track over us.
Lightning can strike 10 miles before a thunderstorm, so be more careful if you are outside.
Temperatures are also dangerously hot, as a Heat Advisory continues until 8 p.m. The thick humidity and excessive temperatures feel like 102 degrees this afternoon. Do not stay outside for too long, as you will get dehydrated very fastThe most powerful storms will taper off after 8 p.m.; however, the spotty showers will probably continue overnight and into Thursday (but will now no longer be almost as strong as Wednesday night). Temperatures will drop off too.
