The singer, businesswoman and philantropist, Rihanna, was awarded with the President’s Award on Saturday, on the occassion of the 51st NAACP Image Awards, Presented by BET, at Pasadena Civic Auditorium. However, limelight was not the award, but the speech which Rihanna gave when she mounted the stage to receive her award.
According to Rihanna, she used this medium to encourage everyone present tp talk to their non-black friends to join in the fiht against inequality. Here is part of the statement:“Well then, they want to break bread with you, right? They like you? Well then, this is their problem too. So when we’re marching and protesting and posting about the Michael Brown Jr.s and the Atatiana Jeffersons of the world, tell your friends to pull up,”
The speech got her an applause from the crowd of people present, as fellow celebrities nodded in agreement with her.
