The devastated widow revealed in a new interview that the father-of-three, knocked onto subway tracks during a fight and killed by a train in Queens on Monday, was hurrying home to take his wife to a doctor’s appointment.
When Hilda Rojas‘ 48-year-old husband, Heriberto Quintana, failed to show up to take her to dialysis treatment, she discovered he had been killed.
“I want justice for my husband because they took his life just because of a phone. He was my helper. He was my provider, and now I’m alone,” Rojas said as she sobbed.
According to Rojas in an interview with CBS News, her husband was a loving father to a 14-year-old and two older children. He was also a gentleman who avoided arguments with others.
“The conflict started with my dad accidentally pushing the guy and bumping him. And I guess the guy dropped his phone on the train tracks. And the guy got mad, and that’s when the conflict started – the fight. It’s crazy, over a damn cell phone,” Demsi, one of Quintana’s sons, said.
Manslaughter charges have been brought against Carlos Garcia concerning the incident.
Prosecutors claimed that during Garcia’s late Tuesday arraignment on manslaughter charges, Quintana was struck in the face, causing him to fall off the platform and roll into the path of an approaching F train.
According to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, he suffered blunt force injuries and died as a result. His death was classified as a homicide.
