Authorities in Maryland claimed they discovered the decomposing body of a pregnant lady in the house of a man they were arresting in connection with a second alleged homicide that occurred last week.
Torrey Moore, 31, of Silver Spring, was arrested and charged with shooting and killing Ayalew Wondimu, 61, at a gas station convenience on Thursday, according to Montgomery County police.
Moore was involved in a fight with Wondimu, an employee of the Dash In convenience store at the Shell station at 11150 New Hampshire Ave., around 3 p.m. Thursday, according to police. A verbal argument that began when Moore approached the counter got physical, and Moore allegedly shot Wondimu many times in the chest with a revolver he had concealed in his vest.
Wondimu was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.
When officers got a no-knock search order for Moore’s apartment and searched it early Friday morning, they found the body “in an advanced stage of decomposition,” according to authorities.
According to county police, More informed investigators that he was in a relationship with the woman and that she was eight months pregnant when she died.
He also told police that “there had been some type of fight between the two about one month prior that led to the victim becoming deceased prior to today,” according to Police Chief Marcus Jones, who added that police believe the lady lived at the apartment.
Moore was detained at his flat and charged with first-degree murder and felony possession of a handgun.
According to police, the medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy, and the woman’s identity and additional charges will be withheld until the cause and manner of death are determined.
Tony Pineda, a neighbour who has lived at the apartment complex for two years, told NBC Washington that he smelled something foul.
He told the channel, “It just smells like trash.” “I don’t know. It’s just a bad smell.
“I mean, knowing it’s right here is kind of crazy,” he continued.
Jones told reporters on Friday that police are “a little bit amazed that we did not receive any calls — none that we have seen thus far — that would’ve given us any indication that something was occurring within that apartment.”
