A year before the start of World War II, the United States congress board came to know that the proposed Navy training ground did not house enough land space for the training of new pilots and after the discussion with Texas Representative Lyndon B. Johnson, March 1941, the Navy kicked off a new air training station on Corpus Christi Bay.

The newly commissioned training station measured 20,000 acres, it also housed 997 hangars, some shops, barracks, warehouses as well other administrative and office buildings.
Learning from the Saipan battle, the United States doubled the personnel in the force and the training station had 800 instructors assigned with the training of 300 new cadets every month
They achieved the success of the construction of twenty-five miles of railroad within the space of thirty-five days, also, a 980-foot rail-highway bridge and a 400-foot trestle bridge across Oso Bay. Within 10 days, they also put in order an eight-mile 100-pair telephone cable for the permanent telephone system, connecting the Flour Bluff and Corpus Christi was an eighteen-inch cast iron water pipe.
In 1944, Corpus Christi was the largest Naval training station, graduating over 35,000 aviators, the base was an important station for planes and aviators during World War II. Amongst some aviators who passed through included President George H.W. Bush who graduated from the academy in 1943.
In 1942, National Youth Administration members and Navy cadets 1942 put in order, fixed, and trained with different aircraft and war machines at the famed military base.
Howard R. Hollem, a photographer from the Office of War Information, was also present during this period to capture the event. Gradually, WWII began occurring, and the United States each day were close to entering the war.
The base was included among the many military marvels created. After its completion in June 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked, and the United States went to war.
