Kahlil Square will be sentenced in November for killing David Evans last year. Evans’ wife, Kristie, claims that Evans was abused and asked Square to kill Evans.
According to the man’s attorney, an Oklahoma man acknowledged to killing a pastor whose wife also admitted to the crime this year after she claimed the murder was her only way out of decades of abuse.
According to Tony Coleman, Kahlil Square, 27, entered a plea of guilty last week to a charge of first-degree murder.
According to Coleman, the plea is “blind,” which means there is no agreement between Square and the district attorney’s office. The “best approach we have at our disposal,” he said, was the action.
The district attorney’s office in Pontotoc County, which is handling the case’s prosecution, could not be reached right away for comment.
David Evans, a minister of Harmony Free Will Baptist Church in Ada, was killed on March 22, 2021, and his wife Kristie Evans, 49, was sentenced last month to life in prison with the chance of parole.
According to the authorities, Square shot David Evans in his house when he was fast asleep. Kristie Evans first claimed that her husband was slain by an intruder but later acknowledged that she had ordered Square to carry it out.
She claimed that her husband constantly pushed her to have sex with other men, including Square, in interviews conducted from prison last year. He was also described by her as being financially domineering and physically violent.
Prosecutors labeled Kristie Evans, who used Square, as a “very excellent liar” during her sentence hearing.
A man who “was just gullible enough to fall into her web of deception and manipulation,” according to Coleman, who echoed those remarks on Monday, was taken advantage of by her.
He said, “She done a number on him.”
Coleman stated that Square’s sentence is set for November 15.
