The Scottish first minister also praised the late Queen Elizabeth II for being the “anchor of our nation,” recalling a personal experience during a visit to Balmoral.
Nicola Sturgeon told how her husband saved one of the Queen’s corgis from electrocution before a meal at Balmoral.
The Scottish First Minister remarked while moving a motion of condolence in memory of the late king at Holyrood in the presence of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla.
Ms Sturgeon paid homage to Queen Elizabeth II after the Scottish Parliament observed a two-minute silence, saying she had “been the anchor of our nation.”
“Most of us simply don’t remember life without the Queen,” she said.
However, Ms Sturgeon, like MPs and former prime ministers at Westminster last week, recalled personal stories of her time with the monarch, including “one rather tense moment” before dinner at Balmoral when the First Minister’s husband Peter Murrell noticed a drawing room light flickering on and off.
“To my great alarm – it was after all in the presence of Her Majesty – my husband suddenly leapt up and darted across the room,” she said.
