Friday is National Dog Day, a yearly event founded in 2004 that seeks to motivate people to celebrate and adopt Dogs–no matter the breed.

According to the National Dog Day website.

“Our mission is to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of Dogs that need to be rescued each year and acknowledges family Dog and dogs that work selflessly to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort,” says the website.

According to a record from the Shelter Animals Count National Database, Animal Shelters have seen a decrease in adoptions compared to last year. The report predicts Dog Shelter Population will increase by the end of the year.
