Over the weekend, a crash involving two military vehicles killed one soldier and injured three others at a Pennsylvania Military Training Area, according to officials.
The crash occurred Saturday at Fort Indiantown Gap, about 25 miles (40 kilometres) northeast of Harrisburg, where the Pennsylvania National Guard has its headquarters, according to a news release from guard officials.
Spc. Mackenzie L. Shay, 20, of New Castle, was killed in the crash, according to officials. Shay was a 92F Army Petroleum Supply Specialist assigned to Company G, 128th Brigade Support Battalion, 28th Infantry Division.
Three other service members were treated and released from Hershey Medical Center, according to officials.
“Our priority right now is to take care of the family and soldiers, making sure they have all the resources they need during this critical time,” Army Maj. Gen. Mark Schindler said.
Officials did not release any information about the crash, only stating that it is still under investigation. According to fort officials, the crash occurred during a routine supply mission between ranges in the fort’s more remote training area.
