A Memphis television reporter became emotional while discussing a shooting spree that killed four people and injured three others on Wednesday, just days after a local jogger was abducted and later found dead.
“This is an extremely dangerous situation, and I know…,” Joyce Peterson, an NBC affiliate WMC of Memphis reporter, said before trailing off.
“Memphis is tired right now. Yeah. I’m good. I’m with you all,” she said. “Memphis is tired right now. … It’s difficult right now. Bear with me. It’s a very nerve-wracking night.”

The shootings occurred on Wednesday, beginning with the discovery of a man dead in a driveway shortly before 1 a.m. According to authorities, another man was fatally shot in his vehicle hours later, around 4:38 p.m. Before the shooting, a grey sedan was seen pulling up next to the victim’s car on video from a nearby business.
At 4:40 p.m., another victim, a woman, was discovered. Afflicted with a gunshot wound to the head, She was admitted to the hospital in stable condition. Two men were injured, and two women were killed as well.
The suspected shooter, Ezekiel Dejuan Kelly, 19, was arrested around 9:20 p.m. and was charged with first-degree murder early Thursday.
Eliza Fletcher was found dead two days before the shootings after being abducted while jogging near the University of Memphis on Friday morning.
Cleotha Abston, the suspect in that case, was arrested and charged with a variety of offences, including first-degree murder and kidnapping.
Both crimes, according to Peterson, have contributed to a “very difficult week.”
