After no ticket matched all six numbers chosen last week, the Mega Millions jackpot increased to an astounding $565 million, the lottery said on Saturday.

According to a news release on Mega Millions’ website, the jackpot would rank as the sixth-largest payout in the game’s 20-year history if someone were to win the next drawing.

The white balls 15, 21, 32, 38, and 62, along with the gold Mega Ball 8, were picked as the numbers on Friday night. No ticket matched all six winning numbers, but two tickets sold in Illinois and California matched five of them and won the second-largest prize in the game.

According to the news release, 31 tickets from all around the United States matched four numbers and the Mega Ball to take home the third-tier prize.

The most recent Mega Millions jackpot was won on October 14 when tickets bought in Florida and California was split into two $502 million prizes.

There have been 11 jackpot wins totalling $500 million or more in the twenty years since Mega Millions of tickets first went on sale, including three that exceeded the astounding $1 billion.

A lucky ticket purchaser in South Carolina claimed the game’s $1.537 billion record jackpot on October 23, 2018.

According to the website SmartLuck, the chances of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million. The following drawing will take place on December 27.
