Twenty years ago, Kobe Bryant gifted his mom a 14k gold-and-diamond ring, which has now just sold. The ring has brought in over $206k $206,080, to be exact.
Back then, Kobe had bought two identical, blinged-out rings for his parents to celebrate his first NBA championship with the Lakers following the 1999, 2000 season.
Previously, Kobe Bryant’s mother, Pamela Bryant, had famously attempted to sell the rings out together with some other Kobe memorabilia. Still, the deceased legend sued to try to stop the sale. However, Kobe ultimately agreed to let his parents sell six items out of his memorabilia, including the rings. So, in 2013, Kobe’s parents sold the items to a private collector, who is also a big Lakers fan for a total of $280,000.
But now, as the private collector had gone to Goldin Auction to see what they could buy the rings for, the value obviously has skyrocketed.
At the point of bidding, the minimum was $15,000, and after 20 total bids, the ring sold for $206k.
Meanwhile, the ring that Kobe Bryant gave to his father, Joe “Jellybean” Bryant, is expected to be auctioned soon and could even bring in more funds than that of Pamela.
The identity of the new buyer, moreover, has not been revealed and could never be.
