According to police, two additional people have been detained in relation to a fatal shooting that occurred at the annual LGBTQ Pride festival in the Norwegian capital. There are currently four suspects in custody.
Following the June shootings in Oslo’s nightlife sector that left two people dead and more than 20 injured, a 42-year-old Norwegian citizen who was born in Iran was detained. According to authorities, a second Norwegian guy in his 40s is wanted.
Police reported that two further suspects, a Norwegian national in his 30s and a man in his 40s with Somali citizenship, had been detained on Sunday. Authorities added that both are inhabitants of Oslo and that the police are familiar with them.
According to authorities, they are being held on preliminary counts of “complicity in the act of terrorism.”
Arfan Bhatti, the suspect who hasn’t been taken into custody yet, is thought to be in Pakistan. According to Norwegian police, “we had officers from the Oslo police district in Pakistan a short time ago” to “ensure the greatest possible cooperation with the Pakistani authorities.”
Bhatti is accused of making remarks about killing gay people online. The main suspect in the June 25 attack, which the Norwegian Police Security Service has referred to as an “Islamist terror act,” Zaniar Matapour, is the subject of media reports that he was acquainted.
Preliminary allegations of murder and attempted murder have been brought against Matapour, who, according to Norwegian media, immigrated to Norway in the 1990s with his family from a Kurdish region of Iran.
