Idris Elba proposes annual voluntary quarantine in memory of COVID-19 pandemic

Idris Elba who was one of the first celebrities to have contracted COVID-19 has proposed the need for people to observe a quarantine exercise once in a year as a memorial of the COVID-19 pandemic. Idris Elba also urged that rural area dwellers should be supported, including farmers and those involved in food production.

Idris Elba stated in his new interview with the Associated Press, that his experience with COVID-19 was “definitely scary and unsettling and nervous.” Idris Elba added that his life, as well as that of his wife, Dhowre, were completely “turned around”. Idris Elba stated that  “You know, everyone’s sort of feeling the way we have been feeling, but it has definitely been sort of just a complete upheaval. The world doesn’t tick on your time. I think that the world should take a week of quarantine every year just to remember this time. Remember each other. I really do.”

Idris Elba and his wife, Dhowre, have been newly appointed as UN Goodwill Ambassadors. They have partnered with the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), with one of their roles being to help set up a $40 million relief fund for farmers and food producers in rural areas.

According to Idris Elba, “People forget that 80 percent of the poor population live in these rural areas. What we are really worried about at the moment, and why we are launching this fund is that those people are being forgotten.”

Idris Elba also spoke of persons who are struggling in rural areas, adding that “If you imagine being in a village where no one even knows the name of your village or your population, and that you live in a slum where there is one room and six of you live in it, social distancing is almost laughable,” he said.

United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has said that it hopes to raise about $200 million in additional money from governments around the world, in addition to the $40 million which will be provided by the relief fund.

Elba and his wife allegedly have been in New Mexico since the time he reported his illness on March 16 since he was shooting a film there. The couple intends to come back to their old neighborhood of London once they’re ready to make sure about a flight. “We’ve been lucky,” said Elba. “We have been remaining in a beautiful spot that has been truly agreeable for the time. In any case, we’re anticipating returning home.”
