Three days after departing alone on a mountain in New Hampshire, the hiker was discovered dead, according to state officials.
According to a statement from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division, Emily Sotelo‘s body was discovered on the northwest side of Mount Lafayette around 11:15 a.m.
The search for Sotelo, who vanished after leaving for a solo hike on Sunday, was at times complicated by strong winds, chilly temperatures, and blowing snow, according to the agency.
According to the department, ground crews were directed to the area where she was discovered on Wednesday after discovering her tracks and personal belongings in the headwaters of Lafayette Brook.
According to the state’s fish and game department, the New Hampshire National Guard and a number of search and rescue organizations assisted in the search for Sotelo.
The mountain known as Mount Lafayette rises to a height of about 5,200 feet in the northwest of the state, close to the community of Franconia.
