In 2020, the movie producer was previously found guilty of sex crimes in New York.
The jury selection process for Harvey Weinstein‘s sexual assault trial will start on Monday in Los Angeles.
The accusations made by five women, who claim Weinstein raped them in opulent hotels between 2004 and 2013, are the basis for the criminal proceedings.
The 70-year-old Weinstein has entered a not-guilty plea and stated that all of the encounters were consensual.
According to District Attorney George Gascón, the allegations in the Los Angeles indictment claim that Weinstein raped a woman between September 2004 and September 2005 and another woman twice in 2013. Additionally, they claim that Weinstein violated the sexual rights of three women, two of whom occurred in separate events in 2013.
It is anticipated that all five of Weinstein’s accusers will appear in court as well as a number of additional women who will detail Weinstein’s previous terrible deeds but whose claims are not related to the criminal accusations.
According to Jennifer Siebel Newsom‘s attorney, Beth Fegan, “like many other women, my client was sexually attacked by Harvey Weinstein at a claimed business meeting that turned out to be a trap.” “In an effort to help survivors receive some justice and as part of her life’s work to better the lives of women, she plans to testify during his trial. Please appreciate her decision to keep this conversation within the courtroom.”
In New York, Weinstein has already been given a 23-year term for rape and sexual abuse. In a trial that finished in February 2020, he was found guilty of third-degree rape against one woman in 2013 and sexual assault against a different woman in 2006.
In August, he received permission to appeal his conviction.
In 2017, allegations against Weinstein, who co-founded the Miramax film studio, led to more than 80 women accusing him of sexual misconduct and harassment.
