Elon Musk said on Tuesday night that he will step down as the founder and CEO of the social media site after surveying Twitter users.
“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams,” he tweeted.
On Sunday night, Musk asked Twitter users if they thought he should stand down as CEO.
At the time the survey was closed on Monday morning, 57.5% of respondents said he ought to resign, while only 42.5% disagreed.
“I will abide by the results of this poll,” Musk had pledged Sunday night.
“As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it,” he also tweeted Sunday, later adding: “Those who want power are the ones who least deserve it.”
Tesla and SpaceX are led by Musk, who also owns Twitter. Tesla is an electric car manufacturer. On Sunday, he declared that he had not chosen a replacement for the top post at the social networking site.
“No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive,” Musk said.
