Multi-millionaire, record executive, and ace music producer, Dr. Dre, had left no stone unturned in ensuring that more testing for the COVID-19 pandemic is made available to Compton residents, as well as helping with other relief efforts.
According to Microsoft News, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine Have made donations that will end up seeing over 145,000 meals purchased for residents of Compton, as well as the purchase of medical supplies COVID-19 testing.
The Mayor of Compton, Aja Brown, in a statement issued, has stated that she hopes this donation inspires such altruistic moves in others and also stated that the money is being used judiciously for the purpose it is intended. The Mayor explained saying “Increasing access to food and vital healthcare are some of the most important ways we can make an impact for our community in this time of need.”
Mayor Brown also added that “As issues like unemployment, food insecurity and lack of COVID-19 testing sweep the nation, I hope that this contribution will inspire others to take action, get involved and support their neighborhoods in any way they can. Even in a time of social distancing, this contribution is a strong testament to how we can still come together to support the communities we love.”
It has been reported that many residents of Compton have not been able to get tested for the COVID-19 pandemic, as many have been turned away. According to these reports, about 30 residents of Compton get tested daily, while about 10 people are refused to test on the ground of lack of funds.
