Police reported that a young woman was killed and three men were injured in a shooting on Christmas Eve at a bar in northwest England.
The shooting that occurred at the Lighthouse Pub in Wallasey town at 11:50 on Saturday night is being investigated as a murder, according to Merseyside Police. No suspects have been detained by the police.
“This investigation is in the very early stages, and we understand that this is a truly shocking and devastating incident that has happened just before Christmas Day in a busy venue full of young people,” Detective Superintendent David McCaughrean said.
According to a statement from the police department, the woman passed away at a hospital “with an injury consistent with a gunshot wound.” According to the statement, other persons were hurt in addition to the three injured men.
To determine what transpired, McCaughrean said that investigators were looking for witnesses as well as cellphone and closed-circuit television footage.
“We believe that the gunman left the pub car park in a dark-coloured vehicle, possibly a dark-coloured Mercedes shortly after the shooting, and we are keen to hear from anyone who saw this to contact us immediately,” he said.
Because of the location of the bar, the priest of a nearby church told Britain’s Press Association news agency that locals will be shocked by the shooting.
Since the majority of police officers in Britain do not carry weapons, gun violence is very uncommon.
A 44-year-old man was detained after a fatal shooting occurred in a bar in eastern England on Friday night, according to the Essex Police department.
After another man was killed in the Lamb and Lion bar in Westcliff-on-Sea, police charged the suspect with murder, having an offensive weapon in a public place, and having a bladed object in a public place.
