According to court records obtained on Thursday, a Texas teenager was charged with aggravated robbery after allegedly attempting to steal a ball python named Chompers while being threatened with a gun.
According to jail records, the 17-year-old was arrested on Wednesday on two counts and is currently being held at the Harris County Jail.
A criminal complaint filed on Monday claims that the teenager threatened a woman over a snake and made her “fear of imminent bodily injury and death.”
According to Houston-based NBC affiliate KPRC, a second suspect accused of taking part in the robbery that happened on October 2 southeast of the city’s centre was still at large on Thursday.
According to a statement released by Houston police last month, the attempted robbery took place after the woman agreed to meet a potential buyer at an apartment complex parking lot after listing the snake for sale on a selling app.
According to Ariel Giron, who spoke to KPRC, the ball python would be sold for $200. According to Giron, a female who arrived at the parking lot had a small amount of money and claimed her brother would bring the balance to her later.
She informed the channel that two men approached her minivan as they were conversing. She claimed that one of them wanted the snake with a revolver in hand.
According to CCTV footage provided by the department, the couple could be seen leaving Giron’s vehicle shortly after they arrived but without a snake.
Giron told KPRC, “I’m guessing he was afraid of the snake.” “He kind of leapt back as the snake kind of passed by him.”
She said, “I think he’s staying with me now.”
It was impossible to get in touch with the teen’s attorney right away for comment.
