The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) in Nigeria has closed down a Chinese restaurant that refuses to attend to Nigeria locals. The Haufei Restaurant & Mall, which is located at Lagos, Nigeria also faces “further regulatory action” owing to the perceived discrimination.

Complaints arose from Nigerians who patronize the restaurant, stating that they are not allowed to dine in the restaurant, except to order take outs. This policy is only restricted to Nigerians, as Chinese patrons are allowed to dine in the restaurant.
Announcing the closure of the restaurant, the FCCPC Director-General, Babatunde Irukera, described the policy as being “simply ludicrous”. According to him, “there can’t be any acceptable reason to discriminate against any national, more so Nigerian in Nigeria,” Irukera said in a statement.
He added, “that we walked into a restaurant that openly declined service on account of our race is simply ludicrous. The only response to this openly outrageous conduct is interim closure.”
