Cheese Sold In The U.S. And Mexico Recalled Due To Listeria Outbreak

According to a news release, Brie and Camembert cheeses that were sold everywhere in the United States and Mexico have been recalled after being connected to a Listeria Outbreak that resulted in 6 instances of the infection from 2017 to 2022.

After performing a thorough environmental assessment on 120 samples of its goods and facilities, Old Europe Cheese, Inc. announced a voluntary recall on Friday for Brie and Camembert cheeses sold from August 1 through September 28 with best-by dates through to December 14. A sample from one of the sites tested positively for Listeria, according to the audit.

According to a food safety advisory released by the CDC, listeria is an infection that can cause severe sickness when bacteria spreads from the gut to other regions of the body, especially in those 65 and older, pregnant, immunocompromised, and newborns. In moderate situations, the virus can cause mild symptoms of food poisoning, but in severe cases, it can lead to pregnancy loss, early birth, and baby deaths.

According to the CDC, the recalled goods were marketed under 25 various brand names, including Trader Joe and Black Bear, and in a variety of shops, including Whole Foods, Stop & Shop, and Lidl.

Now, the CDC advises anyone who purchased the products to discard them and disinfect any surfaces the cheese may have contacted. According to the CDC, listeria can persist in the refrigerator and spread to other foods and surfaces.
