Dan Price, the chief executive of Gravity Payments who rose to notoriety after reducing his earnings to $70,000 to make sure all of his employees could all make at least $70,000, has stepped down as CEO after more than one allegation of sexual assault.
In 2004, the credit card processing company made headlines in 2015 for committing to paying excessive minimum salaries and received complaints from right-wing commenters, including Rush Limbaugh, who claimed the payment structure became unsustainable. Price has additionally been accused of numerous physical and sexual assaults between 2013 and 2022.
On Aug. 17, Mr Price resigned on Twitter, calling his presence in the company ” a distraction.” Price didn’t explain why he decided to quit now. He pled not guilty to his assault charges in May.
Price continued to defend his company’s financial policies in Twitter replies, simultaneously saying nothing about the allegations of abuse from his ex-wife, a 2021 rape allegation, or trying to kiss a female early this year forcibly.
The chief operating officer of Gravity Payments, known as Tammi Kroll, will take over as CEO of the company. Mr Price did not immediately reply to requests for comment.
