Canada Sanctions More Russians, Offers Bonds For Ukraine

Canada’s government announced Friday that it is imposing sanctions on 35 more Russians in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as well as issuing bonds that individuals can buy to support the Ukrainian government.

According to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the sanctioned group includes leaders of Russia’s state-owned energy company Gazprom as well as six energy sector entities.

“As Russia continues its illegal and unjustifiable aggression against Ukraine,” Trudeau said in a statement, “Canada will continue to support the Ukrainian government and people

Trudeau was in Winnipeg for a three-day meeting of the Congress of Ukrainian Canadians.

The five-year Ukraine Sovereignty Bonds will be sold to investors through Canadian banks, with the proceeds going to Ukraine via the International Monetary Fund.
