The family of the murder suspect in Idaho is pleading with the public to stop passing judgment on him and to assume that he is innocent as more information about his background comes to light, including the idea that he was a misfit in his field of expertise, understanding the criminal mind.
The allegations against Bryan Kohberger and the murders that took place in Idaho are both addressed in a statement by the Kohberger family that was just released and received by TMZ.
It reads, “First and foremost, we care deeply for the four families who have lost their precious children. There are no words that can adequately express the sadness we feel, and we pray each day for them. We will continue to let the legal process unfold and as a family, we will love and support our son and brother.”
The Kohberger family adds, “We have fully cooperated with law enforcement agencies in an attempt to seek the truth and promote his presumption of innocence rather than judge unknown facts and make erroneous assumptions. We respect privacy in this matter as our family and the families suffering loss can move forward through the legal process.”
In other words, they are currently supporting Bryan and, like the rest of the public, are interested in learning the specific charges that the prosecution has brought against him.
This happens at the same time as a worrying profile of an outsider who was obsessed with studying murderers’ minds has emerged.
While Bryan Kohberger was pursuing his criminology degrees at DeSales University and Washington State University, the New York Times met with a few of his former classmates and coworkers. He was allegedly very committed to his major, but to the point that it was intimidating and confrontational, which caused problems in his life.
Two specific anecdotes describe the kind of academic Kohberger was, both of which had a place at WSU.
One time, Kohberger got into a heated argument with another PhD student over a criminology topic, and Kohberger was accused of mansplaining to the woman, according to a former classmate who spoke to the Times. She left the class, leaving behind personal stuff because she was so disturbed by the discourse.
Kohberger was a T.A. at WSU as well, however a student in one of the seminars he helped teach claims that he avoided eye contact with everyone and left detailed notes on their papers when grading their work. The students began to complain loudly as it became so awful.
The same student also alleges that Kohberger relaxed his marking policies later in the fall, around the time of the Idaho shootings, and ceased leaving any notes on their papers altogether.
There are numerous tales of Bryan participating actively in criminology conversations, and the NYT article also mentions that he was taught by academics who specialized in serial killers and horrible murders. According to the tale, he was perceived by many people at DeSales and WSU as shy, awkward, and alone in addition to being overly interested in the academic program.
However, Bryan’s loved ones don’t want anyone to conclude him based on any of that. We’ve previously heard numerous anecdotes about Bryan that paint him as aggressive and easily angered.
Kohberger is anticipated to forgo his right to an extradition hearing and is anticipated to appear in court as early as Tuesday to answer for the first-degree murder accusations brought against him in Idaho.
