Amira Donahue, 16, has resigned from being a hostess at the Olive Garden restaurant, after she has been racial discriminated by co-workers and the management of the restaurant. She has also made moves to sue the restaurant.
Amira Donahue was on the news few weeks ago, after a customer at the restaurant, on February 29, demanded to be served by a non-black hostess. According to Amira Donahue, since then she has been a victim of several racial remarks from her co-workers. She overheard some of the co-workers making remarks like ‘black people will do anything for money’ and ‘I don’t like her’. One even suggested that she leaves the job and go into stripping at a strip club.
Amira Donahue decided to call quits after the racial discrimination has gone unpunished by her employers who she reported the incident to. This is the reason why she is suing the restaurant: the fact that they did nothing when she brought the racial discrimination incidence to their notice.
The law firm representing Amira Donahue, Danks & Danks, has said it will file a charge of discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Donahue’s behalf.
On the other hand, the management of Olive Garden Restaurant has fired the manager that complied with the customer’s request on February 29, after an investigation. The management stated that it does not tolerate cases of racial discrimination within the establishment.
