Its production took four years before its release to a few theatres in the United States on May 25, 1977. It quickly went to become a blockbuster and a number one seller.

The film went on to win six Academy Awards alongside a special-achievement award for accomplishments in sound. It revolutionized the motion picture industry with its advancements in special effects. 

The Star Wars saga had a notable influence as it helped bring science fiction movies into life between the late 70s and 80s. It’s also known for its remarkable impact on popular culture. 

The Library of Congress in 1989 chose to preserve the original Star Wars film in the United States National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” 

The Star Wars film radically changed the viewing and description of Hollywood films. It changed the concept of Hollywood-made films from deep, meaningful stories based on dramatic conflict, themes, and irony, stretching it to special effects blockbusters.
