On Sunday, a video-obsessed teenager was critically injured when a train hit him while he was filming a video on the railway tracks at the Waddepally tank near the Kazipet Railway Station. Ch Akshay Raj (17), son of Ravinder and an Intermediate first-year student from Waddepally in the city, was injured.
After the incident, the railway police rushed him to the government-run MGM Hospital in an ambulance. His relatives later transferred him to a private hospital. According to doctors, he suffered fractures in his leg as well as facial injuries. He is said to be no longer in danger.
According to the Kazipet Government Railway Police, Akshay and two of his friends were filming a video for a mobile app when a train travelling from Balharshah to Warangal collided with them. “When the train arrived, he was closely walking along the track. And he was hit by the train’s engine,” said a railway gangman who was working on the tracks at the time of the incident.
“Though he was warned to move away from the train by his friends, and other gangmen, he did not heed their warnings,” said the gangman. The railway police are advising young people not to film on the railway tracks because they could lose their lives in an accident.
The railway police have opened an investigation and have registered a case.
