Skeletons Found Under a Florida Wine Shop May Be Some Of America’s First Colonists

Historians have announced in Florida that lots of small children’s bones were buried underneath a wine shop.

The Florida Wine Shop is located in St. Augustine, which is America’s oldest city. what about those bones? They are as old as the city.

Archaeologists believe that these bones could have been from the first inhabitants of North America.

Researchers discovered seven people, of which three children are among, in the old graveyard.

One of the remains was a young white woman from Europe.

Researchers are still investigating the other Skeletal Remains.

A pottery fragment found close by indicates that these people died around 1572 to 1586.

Archaeologists successfully dug below the building.

The building’s floor was built in 1888, and the soil under the building has not been touched ever since, thereby creating a sought of time shell.

The building was built where the ancient Church of Nuestra Señora de la Remedios stood.

The mission churches in Florida buried everyone on the church floor.

Sir Francis Drake burned down the church in 1586. It was destroyed again by a hurricane in 1599 and was burned down once again by the British in 1702.

While the archaeologists are planning on moving the bones found outside the wine shop to a nearby cemetery, the skeletons found inside will stay right where they have lain for the past 400 years.
