August Alsina is still facing criticism following his revelation about his previously rumored-about relationship with Jada Pinkett-Smith in an interview with Angela Yee. However, the New Orleans crooner has gone further to clear himself, letting everyone know he didn’t just come out plain without letting the Smith family know first.

The “Nunya” singer took to Instagram days after his conversation with Angela was uploaded to write a statement about oppression and fighting different forms of adversity. Although August didn’t mention Jada or her family specifically, it was apparent he was referencing his claims about his relationship with the actress throughout his Instagram caption.

“Truth & Transparency makes us uncomfortable, yes, but I can’t apologize for that,” August wrote. “My truth is MY truth, & its mine to own.”

He continued, revealing that the family was notified personally before he posted the interview coming clean about his affair with Jada.

“W/ that being said, I should also say that no one was sideswiped by any conversation; everyone got courtesy calls time in advance,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, the post seems to be in response to the Smiths directly as they went into damage control mode immediately after the interview, and headlines about Jada’s relationship with August was made public.

Initially, Pinkett-Smith’s team denied August’s claims calling it “absolutely not true.” However, she later tweeted that “there’s some healing that needs to happen” and revealed that she would be hosting herself on Red Table Talk, which shows that there’s still more to the whole story.
