The former world number one tennis player Boris Becker is now a free man after serving an 8-month prison sentence in the UK for bankruptcy fraud.
The 55-year-old was originally sentenced to 2.5 years in prison in April after being found guilty of four charges related to his 2017 bankruptcy case; the judge had stated at the time that Becker would have to serve half of his time behind bars.
Following his release, Becker, according to his lawyer Christian-Oliver Moser, returned to Germany, where he is “not subject to any penal restrictions.”
Becker would have been subject to deportation if he had chosen to remain in the UK, where he has resided since 2012, according to PA Media.
As we previously mentioned, Becker was charged with concealing assets and debts as well as moving sizeable sums of money from his business account after filing for bankruptcy in 2017. He could have spent up to 7 years in prison.
Becker made the most of his time behind bars by reportedly teaching yoga to other prisoners and losing a lot of weight in the process.
