African Migrants On Rudder Of A Ship Rescued By Spanish Coast Guard After An 11-Day Voyage

After an 11-day cruise, the Spanish coast guard rescued three African migrants who were walking on a ship’s rudder, according to officials.

The Alithini II was a ship that sailed from Nigeria to the Canary Islands, and the coast guard tweeted on Monday that it had saved the migrants from the ship’s rudder.

In a photo released by the agency, they can be seen sitting on the ship’s rudder with their backs bowed, ostensibly due to a shortage of space.

Three guys of sub-Saharan descent are the migrants, according to the Spanish news agency EFE.

The migrants were brought to the port where they received medical attention.

According to Marinetraffic.com, the oil and chemical tanker Alithini II made its way to the Canary Islands on Monday following an 11-day voyage from Lagos, Nigeria.

The Spanish archipelago of the Canary Islands, which is located off the coast of northwest Africa, “is a popular gateway for African migrants attempting to reach Europe.” According to Spanish data, migration to the archipelago jumped by 51% in the first five months of 2022 compared to the same period the previous year, according to Reuters.
