In northern Oregon, close to Interstate 5, a human skull was discovered, according to investigators on Wednesday.

Members of a cleanup crew for the Oregon Department of Corrections reported the find early on Monday, according to a statement from the Oregon State Police.

The discovery was initially described as a suspicious object and was made close to Keizer, a suburb of Salem. The item was taken for inquiry by state police, who characterized it as a skull inside a “small” bag.

The remains, which state police said belonged to a woman in her 30s or 40s, were deteriorated and had “no identifiable features.”

According to them, the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office will make an effort to identify the remains.

An inquiry for comments was not immediately answered by the office.

The body of 9-year-old Haley Mae Coblentz was discovered in a duffle bag near a rest area along the state’s H.B. Van Duzer Scenic Corridor, which leads to the coast, in late 2020, about 60 miles to the west.

Two persons were accused of being involved in the girl’s death, but the case was dropped.
