According to authorities, dozens of people have perished in India after a cable bridge carrying hundreds of people collapsed into a river.
Gujarat, a state in western India, experienced a bridge collapse on Sunday evening that resulted in at least 60 fatalities, according to state officials.
After the catastrophe, several individuals became hurt and trapped beneath the bridge, which caused authorities to worry that the death toll might rise.
The fall happened at Morbi, which is around 125 miles from west Ahmedabad, the state capital. Four days after it reopened following renovations, local officials reported that the bridge could not support the weight of the people standing on it.
The number of passengers on the bridge at the time of its collapse is unknown.
In a tweet posted on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his “deep sadness” over the Morbi tragedy.
According to Modi, rescue efforts are in full swing and aid is being given to people who are in need.
