Six people were shot outside a Pittsburgh church on Friday afternoon during a funeral for a man killed in a shooting nearly two weeks ago, according to police.
A video of the service showed mourners inside the Destiny of Faith Church on Brighton Street fleeing for their lives as gunshots rang out around noon. They were at a funeral Mass for John James Hornezes Jr., one of three people killed in a shooting on Pittsburgh’s North Side on Oct. 15, according to police.
The earlier shooting was not immediately linked to the funeral shooting, according to Pittsburgh Police Commander Richard Ford.
Six people were hospitalized, according to Ford. According to police, one victim was initially in critical condition but was later upgraded to a stable condition. According to police, the other five victims are also in stable condition.
As of 5:45 p.m. Friday, no suspects had been identified, and no arrests had been made.
Cops remained at the church all afternoon, examining the scene and speaking with witnesses.
“I just pray to God that whoever it is, whatever it is, they will repent,” Page Davis, Hornezes Jr.’s godmother, who was inside the church at the time of the incident, said.
