Sam Westmoreland, a Mississippi State freshman offensive lineman, was discovered dead at a church on Wednesday, according to authorities who spoke to TMZ.
According to a representative for the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were summoned to the Blackjack Missionary Baptist Church in Starkville to conduct a death investigation; when they arrived, they found Westmoreland’s corpse.
The spokeswoman stated that although the investigation was ongoing, there was “no basis for assuming foul play” at this time.
Sam Westmoreland was 18 years old and two days away from becoming 19.
The cause of Westmoreland’s demise is still a mystery.
According to Mississippi State, the inquiry is being conducted in collaboration with university departments, the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oktibbeha County Coroner’s Office.
