Following an altercation early on Sunday morning, a man deliberately drove a pickup truck through a crowd gathering outside a Colorado pub, killing one person and badly injuring four others, according to investigators.
Following the assault around 1:40 a.m. Sunday in Golden, west of Denver, the 29-year-old driver and a 25-year-old passenger were detained, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, bouncers intervened to stop a fight between the two suspects and some of the victims just prior to the attack outside the Rock Rest Lodge. According to the sheriff’s office, the suspects entered the pickup, pulled out of a parking space in front of the pub, and purposefully struck victims, including bar personnel.
A man was discovered by deputies unresponsive, and he was subsequently declared dead there. According to the sheriff’s office, three persons suffered minor injuries while four people were sent to a nearby hospital.
After the attack, the suspects were stopped nearby, and officers took them into custody. Charges against the driver include three counts of first-degree assault, three counts of second-degree assault, and one count of first-degree murder. Charges of accessory to first-degree murder, accessory to second-degree assault, and accessory to first-degree assault have been brought against the pickup’s owner and passenger.
There are no charges against a second passenger who was in the car. The victim’s name was not immediately made public
