According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, a Florida teenager was killed and two others were hurt after they allegedly stole and wrecked a Maserati early on Sunday morning.
Police claimed that before getting into the Maserati, which was open and had its keys inside, three suspects were seen attempting to break into vehicles in a Pinellas County area.
Police identified the suspects as a male suspect, age 15, who is accused of driving the car, as well as two passengers, ages 15 and 16.
According to a news release from Pinellas police enforcement, the three teenagers were travelling eastward at more than 80 mph without headlights when the driver lost control, over the curb, struck a business sign, and overturned the car.
As per departmental rules, officials claimed they did not pursue the stolen vehicle.
According to Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, who spoke at a press conference on Sunday, one of the teenagers was pronounced dead at the site, while the other two were taken to the hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries, respectively.
Gualtieri said that the driver had lost control of the vehicle. “These are young, inexperienced drivers who are also passengers. No driving permits.”
One of the teenagers is not expected to survive his injuries, according to Gualtieri.
The boys’ parents, according to the sheriff, thought they were asleep and claimed they stole out of their houses in the middle of the night.
When we knocked on their door and informed them that one of their boys is dead and the other is probably going to die, Gualtieri stated, “You can only imagine the angst [of] those parents in the last 45 minutes.”
The event is being looked into by the authorities. Gualtieri stated that his office intended to make the incident’s video available on Tuesday.
