Michelle Obama Has Announced A Six-City Book Tour For ‘The Light We Carry’

Michelle Obama is planning a six-city book tour this autumn to promote her new book, “The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times,” which will kick out in mid-November in Washington. D.C. and will conclude a month later in Los Angeles.

“I’m looking forward to meeting new people — and, of course, revisiting some familiar ones from the last tour,” the former first lady said in a joint statement published Wednesday by her publisher, Crown, and tour producer Live Nation.

“This book means so much to me — it’s a collection of perspectives and practices I’ve used to keep me afloat amid uncertainty. On this tour, I’ll share some personal stories and lessons that have helped me along my path, and I can’t wait to tell you more.”

Obama’s play will premiere at the Warner Theatre in Washington on November 15, the same day her book is released. She will next perform in Philadelphia’s The Met, Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, Chicago’s Theatre, and San Francisco’s Masonic before concluding at Los Angeles’ YouTube Theater.

The seating capacities of the venues range from 2,000 and 6,500 people. The venues are far larger than usual book events, but they are smaller than Obama’s dates on the first leg of her tour for her 2018 memoir “Becoming,” when she performed at the United Center in Chicago and other arenas accommodating 15,000 or more people.

“Becoming” became an immediate million-seller and sold more than 17 million copies worldwide, making it the most popular book published by a former White House resident in modern times.

Obama will speak in each city, as he did in “Becoming,” with guest moderators to be revealed later. Oprah Winfrey, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Sarah Jessica Parker were among those who joined her for “Becoming,” Obama will also set aside seats at each site for a select number of community members in collaboration with Live Nation.
