After Receiving Wheelchairs, Injured Dogs Rescued From The Ukraine War Are Ready For Adoption

Johnny and Phoenix, two dogs that have risen from the ashes of battle, are looking for loving homes forever.

Breaking the Chains Animal Rescue (BTC), a U.K.-based animal rescue organization, took in both dogs after they were injured during Ukraine’s continuing war. On February 24, Russia launched a large-scale war on Ukraine, sparking Europe’s first significant land battle in decades.

According to a press statement from Walkin’ Pets, a pet mobility firm, rescuers discovered Johnny shot by the Russian military and left paralyzed in his rear legs. By the time aid came, the brown and black dog had dragged himself two kilometres on his front legs.

An airstrike struck Phoenix. During the attack, the dog lost both of his rear paws and wounded one of his front paws.

Both dogs miraculously survived their horrific injuries long enough for BTC, which collaborated with a Ukrainian animal sanctuary, to take them in. Since accepting the puppies, the organization has provided medical treatment, housing, and loving care to the animals.

After assisting the pets in healing, BTC realized that wheelchairs might aid the canines’ movement. The organization contacted Walkin’ Pets in the United States to enquire about wheelchairs for the dog pair. Walkin’ Pets generously provided a wheelchair to each dog to assist them in learning to walk again and achieve greater freedom.

Johnny and Phoenix adapted swiftly to their wheelchairs. Both dogs are now walking and doing so well that BTC has considered them adoptable.

The rescue organization is presently seeking adopters for the animals. Future pet owners for Johnny and Phoenix should be prepared to give additional help to the pups as they heal from their injuries and learn to navigate the world in their wheelchairs.
