Two victims had been air-lifted to San Antonio Memorial Hospital following a shooting Thursday in Uvalde, Texas, police stated.
The Uvalde Police Department stated it responded to a shooting “with injured victims” at Uvalde Memorial Park around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The Texas Department of Public Safety stated that this was a suspected gang-associated shooting and that they are working with the police department and sheriff’s office.
“This fact is preliminary. As the situation develops, we will work with nearby law enforcement to provide updates,” DPS stated .government is searching for a juvenile suspect.
Authorities stated it’s “not a risky state of affairs for the general public,” KSAT mentioned.
Uvalde police suggested citizens keep away from the area.
More than three months ago, on May 24, 19 students and teachers were killed in a bloodbath shooting at Robb Elementary School. This week, students returned to the classroom for the school year on Tuesday.
“I was angry to learn that gang violence has endangered the Uvalde community and harmless Texans this evening,” Gov. Greg Abbott stated in a statement Thursday night. “I once called Mayor Don McLaughlin and County Judge William Mitchell to provide the state’s complete guide, and assets as law enforcement hunts down the gang members.”
The governor stated he directed DPS to “conduct patrol operations in the gang hotspots,” send six extra trooper units and start an anti-gang effort in Uvalde.
Working with the Uvalde Police Department and Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office, DPS is likewise deploying Special Agents to target the five gangs operating in Uvalde,” he added. “Thank you to all local and state law enforcement and first responders who unexpectedly went into action to shield their fellow Texans.
