Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Shuts Down Due To An Hour-Long Power Outage

A Power Outage at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas’ capital city on Wednesday morning caused flight delays and road closures.

Shortly before 5 a.m. local time, the airport announced on Twitter that teams were investigating an unresolved power outage in the Barbara Jordan Terminal, the airport’s main terminal that handles international and domestic flights. Meanwhile, all roads leading to the terminal were temporarily closed, and no flights were permitted to depart, according to the airport.

Austin Energy, which supplies electricity to the capital city and surrounding areas, confirmed on Twitter that its crews were “assessing the situation” at the airport. According to the utility company, all nearby power lines are underground.

After more than three hours, the airport announced that power had been restored to the terminal and collaborated with local police to reopen the roads.

“Please check your flight status before leaving the house as delays are still expected,” the airport tweeted. “Airport roadways are still closed at this time; we will provide an update when they reopen.”
