Authorities said an American was killed by a shark attack while snorkeling in the Bahamas on Tuesday.
According to Bahamas authorities, a bull shark attacked a Pennsylvania woman in her 50s off Rose Island shortly before 2 p.m. local time.
According to police, the woman was with her family in a popular snorkeling area when the attack occurred. At the time, five to seven people were snorkeling.
According to authorities, the victim, who police have not publicly identified, was on a family cruise.
According to a statement from Royal Caribbean, the woman was a guest on a seven-night Harmony of the Seas cruise that departed from Port Canaveral, Florida.

According to the company, she was on an “independent shore excursion” in Nassau when she was attacked by a shark and died at a local hospital.
“During this difficult time, Royal Caribbean is providing support and assistance to the guest’s loved ones,” the statement said.
A shark attack killed an American tourist snorkeling off Rose Island in June 2019. Jordan Lindsey, a 21-year-old Loyola-Marymount University student, died after being attacked by a school of sharks.
