Adriana Martinez, the mother of the Uvalde school shooter, was met with much backlash after a meeting for students in the town. Family members of 10-year-old Amerie Jo Garza, one of the 21 victims of the Uvalde School Shooting, approached Martinez and had a screaming match. Her response to them was, “you have no right to judge my son.” During the exchange, she also apologized to the families, “I know my son was a coward, and you don’t think I don’t know that I know. You don’t think I’m carrying all that with me.”
Amerie’s grandmother expressed her frustrations about the shooter’s mom to the outlet, saying, “She’s not innocent. She raised him like that. She knew how he was. She knew he had guns. She’s not innocent.” Grieving family members continued to scream out various issues to Martinez, asking why she didn’t call the cops, to which she responded, “I didn’t know.”
After the massacre, Adriana Martinez said her son had reasons for the shooting. Her response was met with much protest online. During her encounter with the family members, they asked her “what was his reason”, to which she responded, “you know the mental.”
