1. Stonehenge

Stonehenge

Stonehenge is a mystery that has been around for as long as we know it. It’s a mystery how such a massive structure came to be especially without today’s technology.

The outer ring is made of seven-foot-wide and 13 feet high-standing stones, with horizontal stones on top. There is a ring inside that consists of smaller blue stones.

It remains a wonder as to how this structure was erected,  what purpose it was to serve and who erected it between 3000BC and 2000 BC. However, it has been protected since 1982.

The Easter Island, referred to as Rapa Nui by the natives, is home to some of the world’s most mysterious structures.

Some of them include the Moai, monolithic human figures said to be living faces of their ancestors. These stones were carved between 1250 and 1500.

These statues weighed an average of 82 tonnes and an average height of about 29 feet.

The Nan Madol which literally means “within the intervals,” was the capital of the Saudeleur dynasty until the middle of the 17th century.

This city was built on a coral reef in a lagoon very close to the island of Pohnpei. The Nan madol also known as the Venice of the Pacific and the Atlantis because of its many artificial islands connected by a group of canals.

5. The Great Sphinx Of Giza

One of the most popular historical monuments as it’s been featured in many movies. This monument is the oldest monument in Egypt. It’s said to have been erected around 2558 to 2532 BC, hence it’s older than the Egyptian pyramids.

The monument was made to have the face of a man and the body of a lion. It was said to have been made after pharaoh Khafre.

The monument sits facing the rising sun, close to the pyramids Menkaura, Khufu, and Khafre, and its mouth is sealed shut, perhaps to keep the secrets of the anomalies it has been discovered by archaeologists to hide.
