Four persons were killed and three others were badly injured when two helicopters collided in a popular tourist area in Australia on Monday afternoon. Beachgoers enjoying the sea in the southern summertime rushed to help.
At a news conference, acting Queensland state police inspector Gary Worrell stated that the two helicopters collided while one was taking off and the other was landing close to the Sea World amusement park at Main Beach, a northern Gold Coast beach.
While one helicopter successfully touched down on a sandbar, the other’s wreckage was dispersed throughout what the police characterized as a difficult-to-access location.
The chopper that crashed contained both the deceased and the three most critically hurt individuals. Three of the six passengers as well as the pilot perished.
“Members of the public and police tried to remove the people and they commenced first aid and tried to get those people to safety from an airframe that was upside down,” Worrell said.
Medical care was also provided to passengers in the other helicopter, which had lost its windscreen in the collision.
A helicopter was clipped by another helicopter that was flying over the ocean in the crash’s video footage just after takeoff.
A separate business from the entertainment park, Sea World Helicopters, offered its sympathies and stated that it was working with the investigators looking into the tragedy.
RIP to the dead and quick recovery to the wounded.
