A pilot and passenger were harmed after a helicopter lost control and landed in the front yard of a house in central California, according to authorities.
Around 10 a.m. on Saturday, the helicopter crashed and came to rest on its side in southeast Fresno after clipping the edge of the home and shearing off the top of a palm tree.
The 47-year-old pilot and a 33-year-old passenger were both taken to the hospital with minor wounds, according to Chamalbide. On the ground, nobody was wounded.
The lieutenant stated that the chopper was a surveying helicopter out for a test flight. He did not know who owned it or for whom the occupants were employed.
“They heard a pop and then they started losing altitude — that’s as far as we know,” Chamalbide briefed reporters.
Neicy Miramontes reported to the Fresno Bee that her 9-year-old son, Ezekiel Carranco, spotted the helicopter in distress when he was walking to a friend’s house.
“All of a sudden he looks up and sees the helicopter spinning and after that he heard a loud boom,” she said.
A probe is being conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board.
