According to Dallas police, a 12-year-old kid has been detained and charged with murder in connection with a hit-and-run car accident that claimed the life of an 82-year-old woman last month.
In north Dallas on November 7, Florence Kelly was struck by a grey vehicle driven by a juvenile, according to police. The child was not given a name by the police. Being prosecuted as a minor, it was unclear at first if he had a representative in the form of a lawyer.
According to WFAA-TV, Kelly was on her way to acquire groceries when the Toyota Avalon struck her vehicle as it was approaching an intersection at a high rate of speed. After the collision, Kelly was brought to a hospital where she later passed away from her wounds.
Investigators’ doorbell-camera video shows a group of people exiting the Toyota after the collision. Rebekka Kelly, Kelly’s daughter, informed a Dallas television station that the group skipped dialling 911 after the crash.
The younger Kelly described her mother as “the bedrock of our family” and “a powerhouse of a lady.”
Police reported that following the incident, they discovered a 13-year-old girl trapped inside the Toyota who was unable to escape. They are still looking into the crash.
